DLR extension promises jobs for Arsenal

DLR extension promises jobs for Arsenal

The £180 million extension to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) promises to bring new jobs to Woolwich Arsenal, the Mayor of London has announced.

Boris Johnson opened the new line - which connects with the King George V station on the north side of the Thames – seven weeks ahead of schedule, saying it would help increase prosperity in the area.

"I'm absolutely delighted that this extension with its cracking new station is up and running and puts Woolwich Arsenal firmly on the Tube map," Mr Johnson said.

The link also connects users to City Airport and will be used to help transport Olympic shooting competitors during the 2012 Games.

The Mayor said the line would help "kick the credit crunch where it hurts" and encourage "the creation of new jobs, homes and shops".

Travellers wanting to cross the river can now take the DLR, sail on the ferry or walk through the foot tunnel.
