Office workers told 'keep walking'

Office workers have been advised to prevent back injury they should exercise and move regularly.

The British Osteopathic Association has recommended desk-bound workers get up and take a walk.

"One of the best things you can do is to just get up from your desk every so often and have a little walk around the office," says Kelston Chorley, osteopath and head of professional development.

He also suggests employees take advantage of their lunch break and get out for a longer stroll.

Mr Chorley noted that workplace exercise was not the only solution: "At the end of the day, when you get home, make sure that you do some simple floor exercises," he added.

Many jobs are now largely sedentary, which can leave workers at their desk for long periods.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) account for up to a third of all visits to the doctor, research by the Work Foundation has revealed.
