Top employers reach employment prize shortlist

UK employers who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to get people back into work have been short-listed for the first annual Local Employment Partnerships (LEP) Awards.

Finalists include Nissan, Capital Life and Pensions and Coventry City Council. All firms have been assessed and are competing for four employer and two individual prizes.

"Each of the short listed employers has demonstrated a commitment to their local community through Local Employment Partnerships," said minister for employment, Steven Timms.

He said the awards recognise the employer who goes "the extra mile to help some of the most disadvantaged back to work".

The winners will be selected by seven industry leaders, which include Mr Timms, David Lammy, minister for skills, Jackie Orme, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel andl Development and Andrew Taylor, employment editor of the Times.
