Office workers face virus threat

Office workers are facing a new virus threat, consumer group Which? has warned.

Surprisingly, the virus affects workers and not computers - a microbiologist working for the company found computer keyboards often contained more harmful bacteria than toilet seats.

"Most people don't give much thought to the grime that builds up on their PC," said computing editor, Sarah Kidner, "but if you don't clean your computer you might as well eat your lunch off the toilet."

Workers who eat their lunch at their desk add to the problem, as do those with poor personal hygiene.

The study found most keyboards are cleaned monthly, although it revealed 20 per cent of workers never cleaned their mouse and one in ten failed to clean their keyboard.

Workers in office jobs should seek advice before cleaning computer screens, as alcohol-based cleaners can be damaging.
