29/01/2008

The Student Loans Company (SLC) is set to launch a recruitment drive for secretarial and administrative roles in a bid to boost its new headquarters in the north-east, reports reveal.

Due to move to the new Darlington premises in May this year, SLC plan to recruit 500 new employees, making the company the largest employer in the area.

SLC's deputy chief executive, Derek Ross, told the Northern Echo: "We are creating a national centre of excellence in Darlington. We are looking to take on and train the first batch of recruits over the next six months, but this is just the start of a relationship between SLC and Darlington and the Tees Valley.

"We have done a fair bit of research into the local labour market, and we know the skills we need are there. We believe we can attract the right people with the right skills."

Recruitment is scheduled to continue throughout the year, with 40 new jobs expected to become available on a monthly basis.

New job roles will provide opportunities for secretaries, administrators and managers with application processing and customer services skills.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18445655-ADNFCR
