Supermarket Bank to create 1,000 new Jobs in Newcastle

The largest supermarket bank has decided to establish a 100,000sq ft customer service centre at the Quorum Business Park in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Recruitment will start early next year with the first 500 roles to be created by the end of 2010 and the rest of the 1,000 jobs will be created over the next five years.

Tesco Bank’s Chairman, Andrew Higginson said “Tesco is building a different kind of bank – one that listens to its customers, offers simple and transparent products and rewards loyalty. This new customer service centre will help us provide our banking and insurance customers with the same great service they have come to expect in our stores.”

The decision to locate to Newcastle was supported by a grant of nearly £2m from the regional development agency for North East England, One North East and jobs created by this investment will be invaluable to the North East and to the wider UK economy.

In addition Tesco Bank have recently created a further 200 jobs at its Edinburgh headquarters and will be recruiting a further 800 full time jobs as it opens another new customer service centre for its finance operations in the centre of Glasgow which is set to open in the first half of 2010 after receiving a grant from the Scottish Government for £5m to assist the creation of the service centre.
